[XI] Blog [Paid] [Deleted]

 You're making the issue to be bigger than it is, but sure, I'll just agree so you drop it (y).
Vanity URLs is an issue I had first with vBulletin because that was only achievable either through very expensive means or through vbSEO which would make your member url be www.vbulletin.com/members/forsaken which is cool but http://forsaken.vbulletin.com would look so much cooler. I couldn't get that done on vBulletin but I was able to get it done on Xenforo through an addon. Vanity URLS through blogs is the closest we'll get to having myspace-like urls.

You should ask Shawn if you can run this past him... see if he can improve the code or give you ideas on how to do things better in it. Especially considering he just changed digital point over the XF... the man is a genius with coding after all.

Very much looking forward to this...

I follow XenForo's lead in everything I do, so if there's areas of improvement I'd certainly look into it. Generally though, the blog has a very, very small footprint for what it does and most actions are fairly quick and optimized as it is. Most of the improvements Shawn has suggested is deeper in XF's core and how it handles add-on integration; a thing that I can't really alter in this add-on.

That's not right.

Ask your average blogger from wordpress, tumblr or any major blog site what their exact blog url is and they can tell you instantly.

Now ask a XI Blogger what their URL is and they won't know without having to look it up.

Binky Bainbridge's XI Blog url is http://www.dodgeboard.com/forums/index.php?blog/binky-bainbridge.523/

Holy crap. Look how long that blog url is? Let me find a shorter XI Blog...

Here we go: http://www.bglife.ru/blogs/4108/

Who is going to remember their user ID?

And another one: http://www.xenfacil.com/blog/kentaurus.8/

The last blog would look better as a url if it was http://kentaurus.xenfacil.com

Just like when your on tumblr. http://kentaurus.tumblr.com

We can remember those. We can tell our friends to check out or search our blog easily without having to look online. Easily accessible information at your fingertips, is a real benefit to blogs, nothing would be more important than actually knowing what your blog address is at the top of your head without having to google it. Most forum users do not remember their userid.

You are totally right. Blogs without vanity urls are missing an important part.
However you can solve that easily with a simple redirection in Apache or Nagios config (rewrite). We redirect username vanity urls to the profile page of that user.

Can you show me?

Apologies if anyone wishes to use the demo; we transferred to a better server, and in the middle of it I decided to not transfer the Blog demo as 1.1 is right around the corner and it will be updated to that. The demo will be back up online within the next week or so. ;)

Does that mean this will be released in the next week? :)
I wouldn't get excited... this has been getting updated for a long time now, with a lot of... it's just around the corner type statements, and here we are, 2013, now February, and moving along through the year, i.e.
As has been noted before 1.1 is due sometime in summer, well before next year. :)
I would honestly just expect it maybe some time this year...

I love how you tell someone to quit whining in one thread, then come in here and say something like a jackass.

Development takes time, especially when done properly. When it is done with future updates and functionality in mind, it'll take even longer, especially when you're doing something to the same scope as a blogging add-on that isn't just posting entries (Which LN Blog basically was). With the huge list of features and functionality that Onimua and I have planned this becomes less of a blogging add-on, and becomes closer to an integrated blogging platform, just barely below the level of Wordpress.

I've already tried a pre-alpha, and have already bug tested most of the functionality of the add-on. Other than a few minor display issues, everything I checked worked the way it was suppose to. The first beta will no doubt be better than most of the stable releases I've seen here, all because Onimua actually cares about what he puts out. If you have an issue with the amount of time it takes to do things properly, feel free to use a lesser add-on that won't be half as stable or nice as this update will be.

A lot of the delay of the add-on was dealing with backend stuff, so that Onimua can introduce new features and functionality in future versions much easier. Honestly, this recent delay is my fault because I suggested another feature that should be in beta 1. It would have been delayed further if another feature I suggested had been added, but that is delayed till later due to the scope of the functionality. All I can say is it is well worth the delay.
