XF 2.3.7 upgrade experience..What I learned the hard way

Hi everyone, just wanted to share my experience after upgrading from XF 2.2.15 to 2.3.7 about five days ago.

Honestly, it’s been rough and time-consuming, costly, and full of unexpected issues.

I didn’t expect so many addons to break right after the upgrade esoecially. Even my custom addons weren’t spared. I’ve got around 10–15 of them from a single developer, and every single one needed attention. The frustrating part is, the developer kept bumping versions for the same addon two or three times because the fixes weren’t complete. Since it’s billed hourly, the total cost escalated fast. I’m already at around 4.5 hours of billed time (and still counting), and the rate is a steep $80/hour.

On top of that, After 5 days upgrade, my monitor send alert of higher memory usage.

I’ll admit part of this is on me. I rushed the upgrade without doing a thorough compatibility check or proper post-upgrade testing. I was trying to save time and juggle my ongoing cloud migration at the same time. Big mistake.

Honestly, if you’re not fully prepared or haven’t tested everything on a dev site first, upgrading to 2.3.7 can turn into a nightmare pretty fast.

This whole experience has been a pricey reminder that “test first, upgrade later” really isn’t optional. XF 2.3.7 might be solid once everything’s tuned, but getting there has been a painful ride.

P/s : I miss vB days so much 🥺
