I'm not sure what else to do. The user 'mike' keeps using up multiple processes using up to %20 CPU at times.

Just got this from my host... it doesn't always happen but sometimes it does. This is for www.oldrow.net
 
It sounds like your host is complaining that your site is using too many resources. Is this a shared server? Your forum has a lot of activity for a shared server (78 users currently online). You might need to upgrade to a better server.
 
If it is a dedicated server this certainly isn't a problem.
If your "friend" hosts you and is complaining that your site doesn't suck and is getting activity.
He's simply not the right host.

Get hosted properly. It's worth the money.
Perhaps you will also get a better configuration so these potential issues don't happen -
though having apache run multiple processes isn't strange at all.
