Xenforo Server Specs/Usage

I am currently running a vB 6.X forum with "Topics: 1,866,835 Posts: 25,149,918 Members: 357,116 Active Members: 4,568". At it's highest prior to these issues our traffic was at 1-1.5TB a month, back when traffic was measured that way.
Our active member count is down to between a third and a quarter of what it was due to a database issue crashing the site regularly. Part of the crashing is an issue with the vB software, even vB support has said I need to update to fix it.

Before doing that I'm looking at options including converting to Xenforo. Ever since leaving vB 3.8 I've had issues and I'm not convinced throwing more money down that well will fix things. One consideration is server size/cost. I'm currently spending a fair bit on a larger dedicated server, basically trying initially to overcome the software/DB issue with horsepower. Currently my server specs are Xeon® E-2388G 8 Core / 16 Thread, 128GB DDR4 RAM, 2x1.92TB NVMe SSD.

Given the size and hopefully the traffic returning to at least close to what it was once things are corrected would these server specs be sufficient, insufficient or overkill for Xenforo?

Whether I like it or not updating the vB software would be substantially less costly than converting to Xenforo initially but if converting means I can drop to either a smaller dedicated server, paired VPS (software/database combo) or a single VPS that would definitely offset the initial cost over time.

Thanks for any input offered!

You should have migrated to Xenforo in 2015 !

That server seems like overkill for xenforo. But you’ll probably want Xenforo enhanced search

Your current server should be more than capable of running XenForo so the safest approach would be to convert and launch XenForo using your current server and then monitor real CPU, memory and disk usage after traffic returns. If the usage is low, you could move to a cheaper 64GB dedicated server or premium hosting.
