XenForo 2.0.5 to 2.3?

I have a forum with 40,000 members and 1.1million posts across 240,000 threads, currently running XF 2.0.5, and I'd like to upgrade to a new version as Im getting some bugs (largely because PHP has been updated on the server), and to get with the times a little.

Only running one Add-On ([XenConcept] Restrict Guest Views 2.0.7), and not too worried if that goes down. I assume there's an update to it though. Easy enough to reinstall if need be.

But I am wondering, how easy is the upgrade back from 2.0.5 to 2.3? Standard? Or do I need to go to 2.1, 2.2 first?

Thanks.

I believe you only need to do the upgrade direct to 2.3. The intermediate levels are included in that upgrade. With only one add-on, you seem to have that well in hand. What about styling? If you use a prebuilt style package from a dev directly or as a parent style, you'll probably want to make sure you get the latest version of it.

We have a custom style, so will probably need some work after upgrade, but I assume a lot of things carry over.

Actually one of the problems now seems to be I cant update styles or add modules because of PHP errors and I cant downgrade my server PHP any lower lol

You could try to upgrade to XF 2.1 or 2.2 at least so you can keep running the forum. Then a testing forum could be set up on a second server/account running a more recent PHP version.

Assuming I have access to both installs from the same subscription?
You may create additional test installations for the purpose of testing the Software. Any test installation of this kind must be password protected, installed at a URL that makes the testing purpose clear, not used for production purposes and access to it must be limited to You and Your website staff.
