Will XF3 generate an increase in rates?

As title…

The development work has been extensive and the wait even longer. Does the roadmap account for potential increases in rates particularly for cloud services?

Thanks.

XF3 shouldn't be the reason behind a price increase, but that doesn't mean there won't be one. XF3 is supposed to be basically just a style release that was "finalised" nearly three years ago. There's already been a price increase since that time.

That said, it's been just over two years since the last price increase. I haven't been keeping up with how often those come (not very often) but I don't imagine it'll stay at the current price forever.

EDIT: Just looked back at the last price increase thread and it looks like the last increase, before January 2024, was in January 2019.

Why should it? The prices for cloud are

extensive
and
the wait even longer.
So you would have ramped up quite a bit of virtual payments for the new version upfront. When you are using cloud you pay for a full package of hosting, support and further development anyway - a new software version should not influence the price.

Basically the same goes for non-cloud customers: If they paid for maintenance throughout the years they have paid quite a bit of virtual money for further development with getting not too much for it over the last years.

Other than that: XF3 seems still in quite a distance if I didn't miss anything. The next step would be 2.4 (if there is not a 2.3.x release in between). No reason to think about XF3 pricing atm in my opinion and no foundation for it anyway. So all you can get here is speculation and that in the end does not help anything.

It's speculation because it's the customers who answer not the management team. And to be honest, it's their answer I'm waiting for, not that of the community that... as you say: don't know anything at all.

I don't even understand why customers try to respond.

On the contrary, I think that XF3 is an important step for the software and if XenForo planned an upcoming increase it would be THE right opportunity to apply it. But again, it's a question on my part and only the team can answer it without error.

🤷🏻‍♂️

Because you posted in the customer forums, were customers support other customers, not in the official company support channel. You probably won't get an answer from the XF team here. Anyway, regarding your question, even if asked privately via the official support channel: Would you really expect a company to tell you (a non customer) details about future pricing plans for a release that still may be years down the road? You cannot honestly think you would get the answer you demanded.

I think the XF team are probably grown up enough to decide if, when and how to rise prices and do not need advice in that regard. They have done these kind of decisions for 15 years now. If you want to pay more than they ask they are probably happlily willing to accept that. :) Other than that you can simply look up in the forums when, how often and to which amount prices have been increased in the past 15 years and if that had any connection to version releases. Then you can extrapolate a probability from that data what may or may not happen.
