XF 2.2 why do we see IP6v now in members IP addresses

we vet all mew member every day to exclude spammers etc. in doing such we also check every IP address in stopforumspam.com

I don't know if this is related but recently we are now using CloudFlare. Not sure if that is the reason and if so why, but now when we check members IP addresses as we always do we are now seeing about 80-90% showing us as IP6v in the members IP addresses. Clicking on the IP6v does give the geolocation and we can still use IP6v in stopforumspam.com. I ask the question as we have been vetting new members as a daily task for almost 15 years and only recently are we now seeing IP6v. Is this related to our use of CloudFlare or something else. I hope this isnt a dumb question but if so I apologize in advance. For me it's educational

IPv6 users are definitely not new and they can certainly come via CloudFlare. It's possible that you previously didn't have IPv6 configured, some servers/hosts are still offering the legacy IPv4 addresses only. However, it's definitely more common to have both IPv4 and 6 users these days compared to 10 years ago.

Operationally, it shouldn't matter so much. If you want to learn more, just Google up topics about IPv6 adoption globally. It's been around for a long time, but didn't really get traction in residential ISP's as commercial spaces picked it up more rapidly. My own home ISP didn't offer full IPv6 support until about 6 years ago.

here in india, ipv6 usage exploded after a new player (jio) launched as they went ipv6 by default. took a while to get used to seeing these. since then many mobile operators now use ipv6... ipv4 is now in minority here in india as a result.
