XF 2.3 Why are my trending content threads not trending

I just added a trending content widget and had to tweak the settings a bit or it just din’t show any threads.

However the five threads showing a re very far from trending. One is even a “sold” classifieds thread from 2010 with only a few replies and no reactions. There is only one thread from this year, others from 10+ years ago.

Can anyone help, what am I doing wrong?

It can be a bit quirky, imo.

If I change the trending content half life from 7 days to 14 days, it shows threads from previous years. At 7 days, it is stuff from this week.

yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.

I removed it right away and continued to use part of this:
As soon as I found it didn’t seem to work for what I wanted, I removed it and use the (stock xenForo) search forum widget based on thread views/replies/reactions and that seems to work well.

I just thought I should delve back into this one as that seems to be what it is designed for.

This widget (and/or others) need more love.
You should be able to restrict it to use your choice of subforums. And maybe have a few of them for different parts of your forum and be shure that no old threads show up.
I haven't checked if any of this is possible since I tested it on launch.
