XF 1.2 Who's getting alerts with merged threads

If two threads will be merged together, are both subscribers from each thread getting subscribed to the new merged thread?

When the threads are merged, are notifications then send? Because at least one thread must have new related content the moment the threads are merged.

Alerts are 'time' unaware, so once they are sent (ie, new thread posted), they update their content to reflect the current state of the alert. So it'll now be for a reply to the merged thread.

If thread a and thread b are merged to thread c, are subscribers from each thread also subscribed to the merged thread c?

Only if the thread they are watching is the destination/target for the merge.
