Who's addons do you use the most?

So I have some questions for members...

1. How many addons do you use?

2. Who is your top addon author and how many of his addons do you use?

3. Why do you prefer that author?




I'll start...

1. I have 81 addons installed

2. My top author is AndyB with 50 addons installed on my board.

3. I prefer AndyB simply because of his outstanding support and his version check addon.

The version check addon updates all his addons on one screen and makes it as simple as clicking the update button.


My next highest author is Ozzy with 9 addons and the last 22 addons are a mix of authors and a few custom addons.



The main reason for creating this post is to share my experience updrading to Xenforo v2.3.4 which took hours on end. I was lucky 50 addons simplii updated themselves but the rest were all hit and miss with some authors having 2.3 comparability clearly labelled and others not. Short of trying them I really had no way to tell what would happen and some addons only partially worked with some features missing.

So basically lots and hiccups, but I got through it unscathed other than the fact I had to spend lots of time working out bugs for some addons.
I waited until now to upgrade because it gave more time to authors to update their addons.


For me AndyB came out on top and given I had 50 of his addons/modifications installed the only hiccup I had was that some addons had two separate versions, one for 2.2 and one for 2.3. So for a couple all I had to do was uninstall the 2.2 version and install the 2.3. I could not tell that from the version check screen but one DM to AndyB and even that was rectified lickety-split.

PS. As a footnote, I probably dumped close to 25 addons that did not upgrade properly, or where I figured they were not necessary any longer. I even managed to replace a few addons with simple css changes. The more I learn about css the more useful I find it to be.

I don't use many, but most are free ones from Xon. In fact, he's the only dev I have multiple add-ons from, 4 of my current 7. And, to be honest, there's no reason beyond he has free ones that do what I need well enough to meet my requirements. I do like his work, though, so if I had multiple options for something, I might still come down to him. My others are from Ozzmodz, Sim, and Andrew Simmons and all are also quite good in my estimation. Certainly useful at any rate.
