When do you normally upgrade after a major point release (eg. 2.3)?

We have a lot of addons, and getting all of them upgraded, or finding alternatives if the authors are not upgrading, or biting the bullet and removing some addons all takes time.
By the time the addons are sorted out, I bet we're at 2.3.1 or maybe even 2.3.2.
I don't see us being able to upgrade for another 2-3 months, as some of the addons we use are being updated at a glacial pace. Some I can hold off on deploying (they're little extras I like to use), but we have one addon that is at the core of one of our forum sections, and in the past, the developer never even had a version for XF 2.0, and took until well into the 2.1 cycle before we had an update available. The addon currently does not work, but I think a large portion of it has to do with the template changes--I may do my own 2.3 "upgrade" of the add-on until they can official make their own. (I just hope they don't have any JQuery in the addon--I haven't had time to look yet.) And I fear that with 3.0, they will drag their feet even longer.

I prefer cutting-edge myself, but it's hard to stay on that edge when some of the lesser-known developers drag their feet or appear to have abandoned their work.
