What on earth has happened to the Overclockers UK forum?!

That is a good performance trick, didn't realise they did that. I wonder if that would help with SEO considering it would considerably lighten up the page load times.

Yeah, you can't upload your own, but I believe you can select from a pre-approved set depending on your post count.
 
Overclockers are a really good company, I always use them for hardware but i have to say their taste in design is awful.

Nothing wrong with the design I think it's one of the best designs I've seen. Blue, rarely used in styles nowadays I find it quite pleasing on the eyes.
 
The colour scheme is great, but it just looks clunky how they've transferred it to XF. It's a bit better than it was at launch, but could still be improved.

With CloudFlare caching the load time hit is almost nothing. I like the avatars showing for guests personally. I think it gives the forum personality. Just my opinion though.
