What are the chances of Xenforo + portal system being out in December?

So what are the chances of us being able to use Xenforo and a portal system, either by Xenforo themselves or by a third party (Xenadvanced?) by this December?

Ideally I'd like an article system with that for posting news an in-depth articles, that can also be used as a staff blog - but Xenforo + portal is the least I can work with.

I'll be doing a portal system for my own project, and we might be releasing it publicly, depending on how we do it.

Our main focus is media, and not so much textual content, so we'll have to do it differently then was originally planned to fit the focus of most other people.

Version 1.0 = Core product; The forum.

If that's done, and done well, and gold, then it's a matter of up to three months, for a major improvement or addon.

Changes of seeing a "portal" in December; I think realistic, but slim. Q1:2011; an option.

That is, if they are aiming to add a portal or any addon to 1.x branch.

Personally I would play "catch up" to features that users want out of a forum product, fix buges, improve existing features to be more complete, and work on finishing products/services and their main site.

And build a stable core that lets you create version 2.0, coming with an addon product such as pages revamped into a blog with comment system. Or the start of a portal. When there's time to take on an additional developer to handle the load.

Realistic for 2011? Yeah, not impossible. Unlike vBulletin, I am hoping it would make rapid development maintenance releases that support an auto-upgrade; and bigger point releases for underlying structure improvements and new options, permissions, features and what not. And version increments when this core code has been updated to better support something new like a blog, cms, newsletter, etc. (version 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, etc).

I'd rather see the forum very well developed before releasing a CMS/Portal, etc. Nevertheless, I absolutely need some kind of solution working with XF if I'm going to make the switch, whether that be a WELL SUPPORTED bridge to say Wordpress, or something crafted in-house.

As far as timing, I don't think a CMS/Portal of sorts will be worked on immediately following the release of XF (which would justify a December release, and that's only IF XF will be released sometime next week...which I doubt). I'd say, more likely than not, we won't see a CMS solution until Q3 2011 at the earliest. That's my two cents, and the developers may have something else planned, but that seems to be the most likely case.

I'm hoping a third party brings out a simple portal that can show latest news, latest posts and other info, along with some ads. Pages would be able to handle our static content. If a portal is released, either officially or by a third party, before Christmas it'll be difficult for me not to convert.

No idea how long such things take to create though.

To those saying they want the forum very well developed, is it not already? For me it's already better than any of the alternatives on offer at the moment. And between now and the "end of summer" gold release there's many hours to make it even better.

I would imagine that someone will have written some kind of portal within a month or two of XenForo's release. I am that confident in the modularity of the platform.

I can handle using a straight html page til someone gets a cms/bridge built. I did one long ago for my forum and it worked fairly well. I have a straight html page for one of my sites now, doesn't need a portal. Liz

Building your own little one isnt that hard if you're half decent with PHP...I managed to build my own postal w/admin area control and usergroup restrictions within a day on vB3 many years ago.

I want XenForo Ltd. to focus on XenForo as a forum. With things like bugfixes, new features, new suggestions, etc. the developers are going to be swamped.

I, personally, would want the whole of v1 to be dedicated to making the forum stable and bug-free (after all, building on a buggy framework is going to create more bugs) then move on to other additions after the forum is stable and bug-free!
But, of course, that's just me. I have faith that Kier and Mike have a rough idea of when to integrate other things (baring in mind research, user-feedback, etc. are going to have to be done then they'll have to collaborate and plot a suitable course of action). I'd say an official portal will be out around summer 2011. I expect some kind of portal system as an addon to be out by december '10/january-feb '11, especially with the current demand for it.
