Add-on 'Welcome to [usergroup]' notice and conversation

Show members a notice on their first login after joining a specific usergroup - and/or start a private conversation with them when they join that usergroup.

This would come in massively useful for educating new members of a paid group about how to access what they've paid for. (I've tried sending welcome emails; people don't read them.)

I don't suppose anything like this exists already...?

You can do this already with a notice.

Create a notice and set the user criteria "User is a member of any of the selected user groups" to the user group you require. Then when a user joins that user group, they will immediately see that notice when they visit your website. You can then put a link in that notice to a thread which explains how to access what they've paid for. Of course all existing members will also see that notice but they can dismiss it and they won't see it again.

As for reading that information, it'll be just the same for a thread, a conversation or an email, you can provide the information but you can't make them read it! At least with a thread, if a member then asks questions you can link them to the thread again rather than having to try and explain all of the details again.
