I use Sendy.co for email marketing, usually highlighting the "hot topics" for latest forum news and it helps tremendously for posts/traffic. I usually see posts increase the day of and the next day by HUGE numbers. The key is to not send it to often.. I'm trying to limit mine to twice a month, unless something big or "breaking" happens, which isn't much in the automotive world.

Yep, the key is to keep them coming back. I've struggled with that for most of my forums outside of the dedicated/loyal members.

A check box on register that says "Subscribe to Newsletter" works fine right? Luckily, this site doesn't target any EU members.

That was easy enough for us. We run competitions in our the newsletters. If members want to enter they have to subscribe to see it. of course they can unsubscribe at any time.
