XF 1.2 Wanting to add background image to header?

I've tried to purchase the "Header & Background Evolved" add-on with no luck, so it looks like I need to find another way to add a background image to the header. This can incorporate the logo if it makes things simpler. Is there a minimum width maximum with etc for this?

Look at my site, there is a subtle shadow background image set.

Thanks for that. Should I be looking at any particular optimum size for the background image? Is there a maximum?

It depends on your style and what effect you're trying to achieve.
