VigLink

VigLink 1.1.3

No permission to download
I had stopped using the addon many years ago and instead, edited the PAGE_CONTAINER template and inserted it either before the </head> or </body> tag. And later, I moved that into my own addon I created which did the same thing.

Are you sure it's not manually entered somewhere in a template? If the addon is deleted, there should be no remnant of it. VigLink rewrote URLs on the fly.
When I do a search for viglink in templates and phrases, there's nothing. Could there be some other type of verbiage I should search for?

...nothing... So strange... I just realized the links I most recently saw were in a signature... I wonder if there has been no change to the signature since the plugin was removed, if those links remain... Now I just need to figure out who's signature it was and test that theory by deleting the signature and resubmitting it...

That's probably it--links were probably pasted in manually. Since you've eliminated the possibility of it still being in your templates somewhere, that can only be what's left.

Just thought I'd pop back here in the event this helps explain how or why I've still got viglinks in all my forums after removing the plugin and any code. Here is a link to a post with an old viglink:

You can find plenty more just by doing a search for viglink. Any ideas?

If you go into any of the posts with links in them, and edit the post (to look at the URLs directly), are the links hard-coded into the post, or are they the original links that the members posted?

I don't see the VigLink code when viewing your page source. Just Infolinks, and that's something different I presume.

In all the posts, the link code looks like this:

Code:

OK, I just remembered why you're seeing those links. At one point, VigLink had a service where they would create product links out of certain keywords on the site. Those links were inserted by them, so they are all hard-coded with the viglink.com URL.

Product links pasted into posts by members were never rewritten, so those would still be valid URLs.

The only way I could think of to remove the links would be to use the content find and replace addon and use regular expressions to remove those links. That is beyond my knowledge, but someone else may be able to help.

Thank you. I have thousands of these links across various forum communities... I guess I'll create a new topic to see if there are others having the same issue you described and what might be the best approach for a remedy...
