XF 2.1 vB 3.8 to 2.1 - import after upgrade to PHP 7.2

I'm planing to upgrade from VB 3.8 to current XF. Thing is VB is unsupported on PHP 7.2. I was wondering does ImPex, in order to do job right, needs actually working php VB's files or just a MySQL database

The XF importer just needs the MySQL database and the attachments/avatars if they are stored in the file system.
