Using mouse, keyboard & monitor over lan -- Is it possible?

Is there a simple way you can access a workstation from a secondary location over lan (I need to video edit).

If you're just a home user teamviewer is free and probably the best: https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/windows/

I prefer setting up a VPN and using Remote Desktop built into windows, assuming the computer you are connecting to is a Pro version of Windows.

Remote Desktop has too much lag for it to work for such things or is that reduced when using lan?
