It's a pretty simple helper plugin. It allows you to display username by user-id in templates.

Usage:

{xen:helper getusername, "{$user_id}"}

It performs an extra query though for each call?

yes, as we're passing user-id to the helper, it'll call user model's getUserById method to load the data. So, it'll work in that way.
