XF 2.2 Username Change | Updating All Old Occurrences (mentions, replies...etc)

Hi everyone,

Some users ask for username change and when I do so, we face the problem that old content still references the old username (i.e. mentions and messages replies).

Is there a way to quickly update all those occurrences?

I'm abusing this function for that

/admin.php?options/groups/censoringOptions/

oldname newname

I faced a problem with that workaround.
Example:
Censored string:smith
Replacement: john.smith

If another user exists with the username "mark.smith", then his username will be updated to mark.john.smith.

Not sure if I can use regex? Reference to any addon that does this job will be helpful too!
