XF 2.3 Usergroup Application

Hello there,

I want my registered users to be able to apply for a usergroup. I want to assign moderators or managers to those user groups which can accept / deny those applications. Does this exist?

I've found "user group join" addon but not sure if it would do what I want.

Try usergroup promotions. Comes native with XF. It has tons of options that when reached, would automatically put the user into a specific usergroup.

But I'd like to ask, whats the purpose of the usergroup and why would it need an application? Would the mods ask them certain questions first then decide to let them in or not? or would it be based off user interactions site wide, like X amount of messages,likes,points..etc and if so, then you'd definitely would want to use usergroup promotions.

I use this function for a gaming server where an user needs to fill out an application - they may get rejected/approved then there is training and after all the person is "hired". When they are hired- they need to apply to this usergroup and another user group who can accpt/reject these applications should assign the usergroup.

This was easily done with vBulletin. I don't want admins to manually change these. Simply the manager of the usergroup (which will be a regular user) will accept/deny people based on their application outcome.

Since it goers through a manual approval process, the upgrade to the group can be manual.

You could also create a custom field called Approved and have the group promotion use it to upgrade them and keep a record.

But can a regular person upgrade people to these roles? This will not be a single role, there will be multiple, different user groups.

Can a regular member (not admin) take this action? I want another usergroup users to be able to assign this usergroup.

Also, I am asked to choose a criteria- I cannot make it manual as you said?

I've just created a promotion, set a criteria for "999999" messages so no-one can reach it.

But I'm a rookie here- not understanding what you refer to by "checking the box". If you are referring to editing the user and setting the usergroup, this is an admin/mod task no? I want another, regular person to assign this usergroup to a user.

How will you designate the "regular" person to keep anyone from doing it?

By giving that regular person another usergroup. That's what I mentioned, let me elaborate more;

A -> Is the usergroup I want people to be able to apply
B -> is the manager usergroup for that usergroup which accepts or manually adds people to A.

Right. You would need to assign the edit user admin permission to who has this power, you would not need to give them any other admin permissions.

"edit user admin permission" has more powers though, not specifically for adding/removing user groups, no? I also have multiple A's and B's. Not only one. Each B should be able to only add people to his own A.

Yes but why would they edit anything else just because they had the power? Should be a trusted group of course.

It's a gaming community, it happens a lot when they quit the server or they don't like it anymore.
