As the title says, a really small number of users want to disable smilies/emoticons on my forum. Is there any way to do this currently? Via preferences, or anything?

Nope. Not that I am aware of.

    Thanks :)

Maybe I'll open up a suggestion.

Get rid of the emoticon dropdown via this new addon ?

(NOTE: I know they can just type them) and they will appear.

You can do it on a post by post basis with the [ plain ] bbcode.

The thing is the user doesn't want to disable smilies only for his posts, the said user hates emoticons in general and wants it disabled site wide XD

If he uses Firefox then he could probably do it with a Greasemonkey script.

Well, removing Smiley face from the editor would help alot !
The problem is when you type : ) it parses into :)
So if you manually type it in ... it shows up !
