XF 1.4 User title ladder change trophy point values

I have a user title ladder setup which is based on trophy points, i had set the minimum values to a low level to encourage members to transition to new titles and promote posting content.What i want to do now is to increase the trophy point requirements for certain high titles in the ladder, what i'm concerned about is the current members having their titles downgraded, is there a way the current members who have achieved their titles get to keep them but transition to higher titles will be based on the new minimum values set?

I am not sure if there is a way to achieve that other than making a usergroup for those users with a custom title, but that defeats the purpose of using the ladder, perhaps someone else can answer as I believe any changes will alter the user also once it updates.
