XF 2.1 User Promotion & User Upgrade interaction

In the following situation:

User A is added to Group B via a promotion
User A purchases a User upgrade that adds them to Group C
Group C is not eligible for the promotion to Group B

What would happen to User A's Group B membership? Would it be removed?

Yes, I plan to use the criteria "is not a member of user group c" in the promotion to user group B.

So, if done that way, if they were already a member of group b, and then purchase the upgrade to group c, group b would be removed?
