Could you please set the default value for the user_group_id automatically inside the user datawriter, to avoid to have to use
PHP: 
$userDataWriter->set('user_group_id', XenForo_Model_User::$defaultRegisteredGroupId);
when using the XF User DataWriter to create a new user.
