I think the confusion here is over whether it needs to be one or the other--it doesn't (and shouldn't).  It should be possible to use both, but that's currently not the case.  A good WYSIWYG should handle both intelligently, similar to Microsoft Word or WordPress.

They're not sports teams; we're not rooting for our favorite tag here.  There's not even any need to weigh the pros and cons of using one or the other: if they're both used as they're semantically intended to be used, you get the best of both worlds.
