XF 2.0 Upgrading to 2.1

If I was to update to 2.1 (currently running 2.0) 1. should I disable all all add ons first?
2. After the install Is complete, can I screw up my site in any way by turning on an add on that is not comparable with 2.1? Or can I just disable again and be fine.

That's not necessary but it is always prudent to check with add-on authors and to do a test upgrade first.
