UK Online Safety Regulations and impact on Forums

Doing some calculations, and it's probably cheaper to pay for the odd bit of programming and some additional addons, than having age verification software. But it will add to annual costs considerably still.

Incidentally - the Cloudflare CASM scanning tool. Does it just scan images, or does it scan hyperlinks as well, does anyone know? Been googling it and can't find a clear answer.

Keeping it just to use for illegal harms content though or it could get too expensive. I've spent 7 dollars so far with about 15 tests. There are other options in XF to send certain things for manual moderation.
What did your 15 tests consist of? Was that just 15 posts / threads? How large was the context passed to the AI model? I’ve tested on 6 threads / post so far, and it’s not even registered a cent in costs yet.

It might have been scanning the photos uploaded on two or three tests. Photo of a firearm as well as a message (twice). I then did a couple of stroppy messages - which got flagged as bullying and harrassment and sent for manual moderaton. I did a few further tests by adding youtube to the list and posting a youtube link (so any link posted from youtube got sent for manual moderation), Don't want to actually do that, it was just a test. Then tried adding hyperlinks (this meant any hyperlink posted went for manual moderation as well). Don't want to do that either, just want hyperlinks scanning and harmful ones sent for moderation. Which will mean further programming for the addon.

Tbh I couldn't see any charges in AI billing but my balance had gone down by $7

What model are you using with the addon? I’ve tested images as well.

The dashboard shows your usage.

Done that again - googled Open AI billing to find the billing costs page. According to that, my usage was 20 requests and $0.01 of charges. So why has my balance gone down by $7? It only counted one image (used the same one twice).

I suspect I've made a mistake and only topped up $30 rather than $36 dollars as the balance showing is $0.01 less than $30. Except it says in payment history that I paid $36 🤔 So $6.99 has gone somewhere!

Yep I remember now. It says I had $30 of credits. And it did charge tax on top (didn't say what tax so I guess it's VAT). Anyway the good news is you're right - the cost is minimal.

Thanks for helping me work that out. So how the heck do you find the dashboard and billing section?

Ok something I saw on another forum site (not Xenforo). When someone clicked on a link - eg to youtube or some linked product, a warning page came up saying you have clicked on a link that takes you off this site. do you trust the link and poster. If so click here to proceed. Or click here to go back. Or something like that.

How easy would it be to set up something like that?

Also - does anyone use skimlinks? Or Amazon affiliate programme? Just thinking of funding some of the extra costs.

Also, going through the digital tool again , where it assess risks. It can only be low risk under the hyperlinks section, if all links are checked either by human or automated - if children can access the site. So that does mean all hyperlinks posted have to be moderated.

Thanks. Well I'll bookmark that because I can't find it when I log in - just get that page I linked above and it's not in the left hand menu and no "my account" to select under my login name. Would quite like to know how to find it after logging in though.
What URL are you using?

That's the main page which loads for me for where you get your API key.

Then at the top, Dashboard --> Usage.

If you want an off-the-shelf solution
is probably easiest

I've yet to find time to sit and read everything, but are you not allowed to operate a site that isn't low risk? Do all sites have to actually be low or negligible risk?
