XF 2.2 Turn off "Follow" feature

Is there an option to turn the "Following" of users feature off, or is it a case of template edits to remove it?

I've wanted this feature since XF 1.0, or at the very least, the ability to give approval for someone to follow an account. I've also wanted a way for a member to delete followers. But it was in the suggestion box here and failed miserably. No interest.

So yeah...template edits. As it stands for now, I have to go into the database and manually remove followers if members request it. At this point I am at the point where I want to empty the entire table and remove the feature.

I believe @AndyB also has an add-on that will remove the feature.
