It's definitely useful so you know how many characters you have left when creating your title. Especially on boards where the character limit has been customized.

That's why there would be a counter that would go to 0. If they can't explain it within that length, it would naturally make one rephrase what they were typing to make sense in a shorter phrase because they couldn't finish their thought.

Reddit has 300 character titles and ranks at the top of Google. Elipses on search results don't bother me at all. Just put the important stuff at the front.

I want a character counter because knowing exactly how many characters you have left helps when creating your title.

Title lenghts matters, even google started to ignore it, search engine works on old style, why? because there are many other webs on that niche.
if your concurrents website loads in 2 seconds, you must load your in 1.8 seconds,
if they have shorter title length, you must make it shorter to get higher! it works like that in practice,

exception is: you have a unique forum & you are alone on that niche, you can relax & ignore all these seo staff.

Anyway my post addressed to XF team. They decide to add or not! Because I already have these usefull options.

I don't care about users att all! when you have strong content, they come & buy it! my job is to organize pages for seo.
this option is usefull for admins
