Thread number link should be on the left

One serious issue with XenForo I've noticed, is that thread titles begin before the number of the thread. This is problematic, and this is actually one feature which vBulletin is better with, because if I remove the number, the URL won't work, whereas with vBulletin, if I remove the thread title but keep the number, the URL still works. This is important when for example changing the title of the topic, and with the number at the beginning (i.e., on the left instead of the right) of the title, it will cause less problems and always lead to the same URL.

For example, the URL to this thread is:

http://xenforo.com/community/threads/thread-number-link-should-be-on-the-left.45794/

It should be like this:

http://xenforo.com/community/threads/45794.thread-number-link-should-be-on-the-left/

^^ That way, if I write:

http://xenforo.com/community/threads/45794

It should work. But as it is right now, if I write this in the address field:

http://xenforo.com/community/threads/thread-number-link-should-be-on-the-left

It won't work.

I would personally like to see this fixed in the next update of XenForo.

... same thing with vB. If you cut out a part of the url rewriting it will not work anymore.
I didn't understand, what should be the advantage to have the id at the beginning instead of at the end?

^^ Works fine:

http://www.forumbiodiversity.com/showthread.php/40547-UADisplay-(vBulletin-browser-OS-user-agent-plugin) <--- full URL

http://www.forumbiodiversity.com/showthread.php/40547-UADisplay <--- partial URL

http://www.forumbiodiversity.com/showthread.php/40547 <--- numerical URL only

All work perfect.

This is actually a much better way to do it, because if the thread title is changed by a moderator, search engines or any member really who remembered the thread URL number, can get back to the thread by just writing the number. But the way XenForo is right now, you have to write not only the complete and accurate title of the URL, but also the version number.

To be honest, I've grown to like XenForo a lot recently, but this is one of the many aspects vBulletin is still superior in comparison.

I don't understand this one.

You can change the thread title on XF and still end up in the right place because of the thread ID, what difference does it make having the number at the end? No matter what the thread title is, or whether it's changed, it still works because of that ID at the end.

As it stands at the moment, any member or search engine DOES get to the right thread even if the title is changed, because the ID number is there. The only way not to get there is if the thread ID is missing or changed - the same as vB?

And a search engine isn't going to "remember" the thread ID anyway, it just follows links - and why would a member "remember" a thread ID number?

Sorry this just does not make any sense to me.

Oh I see. Sorry about that. I played around briefly with the URLs a few days ago, and got the vague impression that it wasn't like vBulletin in that department. Oh well, no issue here then. Close the thread if you want to.

By the way, is it possible to set the number on the left as a standard? Cant' say I like it at the end.

It's possible in Xenforo to use just the number with a setting in the control panel. I prefer to only use a number and omit the thread title altogether.

Just using the number is fine, however, I actually would like to have the number and then the thread title, isn't that possible? If not, it should be added in the 1.2 release.
