It’s not modified code, click on the [ ] icon as Brogan suggested, it will toggle the WYSIWYG editor.

There should be a a status bar in the editor that you are in bb mode. Still to this day I get the editor is greyed out complaints and they don't understand what happened.

Until 2.2.11, links could be "unlinked" by clicking the "Remove Formatting" button. This is no longer possible, making link removal in long texts a tedious process. Please revert the editor to the previous behaviour if possible.
