Terms and Rules at registration

Just testing out registration - after setting things up again while forum has been offline. So I had signed up a couple of spare accounts the other day. Today when I went to sign up a third, test account, a tick box to accept terms and rules was there. Which wasn't there before. I can't see anything about enabling that in user registration settings? So I'm guessing I've forced terms and rules? But don't remember doing that - where would I find that setting?

When you set the Terms link, it shows it on registration. ../admin.php?options/groups/basicBoard/

(applies to Privacy as well)

When you update your terms/rules, you can force people to re-accept the new version from here ../admin.php?force-agreement/terms

Sorry, I don't understand that - just been reading this thread. Set debug mode but the timestamp is already showing as 0. So I'm confused. So maybe I didn't enable it - but it's there.

Edit: Enabling it in basic options makes it appear on the footer, yes. But I'm talking about at registration. A tick box to accept terms and rules is there, that wasn't there before. Or - are you saying that when I registered the other accounts yesterday, the tick box wasn't there because I didn't have terms and rules enabled in the footer? (I've been turning it on and off while testing and offline). And it's always been there?!!

So that tick box isn't the same as forcing terms and rules then? So what does forcing terms and rules do?

What you linked isn't a way to disable the checkbox, it's a reset for the same process I linked above in the part about forced updating.

If you don't want to have the checkbox, disable the link in the basic options.

You can display your terms & rules in a different manner if you don't want people to read/accept upon registration. Ideally, though, you'd want people to acknowledge your sites rules/terms upon joining.

It's clearly I long time since I first registered! So is that tick box standard? Disabling the link in basic options would remove terms and rules from the footer - and they need to be there.

So this is not the same as "forcing" terms and rules then?

There are two parts:

1) When you enable the terms & rules link in the ACP, it also enables the checkbox upon registration. If you disable the terms & rules, the checkbox goes away. It doesn't "NEED" to be there, you can create your own terms and rules link anywhere you want and refer to it and ask people to read it.

2) The the force agreement option exists to allow site operators to update their terms & rules and hit the reset button, forcing all members to read & accept the updated version before using the site again.

Thanks. Well it must have always been there previously then and I just wasn't aware as admin. I just don't ever remember having to tick it before when I made a new account (a long time ago!) And Terms and Rules has always been in the footer. So has the tickbox always been there? Not something new with any updates/upgrades?

It seems like this function was added somewhere around xf 1.5.20 & 2.0.6. (you can search the GPDR changes)
