TaigaChat - AJAX shoutbox

Hey Dark, I don't know if this was answered elsewhere in the thread so sorry for making you explain it again if this question has been asked before.

We noticed that the shoutbox doesn't update if the window isn't in focus (we're not using it on the forum/portal index, its a "chat room" so we're only allowing full page view/popup), this became a problem for us pretty quickly because our users treat the thing like its an IRC channel. Anyway, we hacked the .js files a bit to turn that off.

I was wondering, how hard is that going to be on the server, any worse than your typical vBuletin 3.x style chat box? We're thinking of cleaning up our hack a bit so after so many minutes it'll stop updating until the window is back in focus.

I'd like to see it added as a feature at some point in the future if you're taking requests. I'll contribute out little hack if anyone wants it and if its cool with you, but I can't promise it'll be the cleanest code in the world (I'm no javascript expert).

Thanks again for all these great modifications. You have no idea how much work you saved me.

A cron task runs automatically which prunes it, even so, it will only display the number of messages set in the ACP.

Otherwise you can truncate the table.

That's by design.

It was changed several versions ago to update on focus only.

Trust me I understand, its a nice feature. I was merely saying that it didn't suit our purpose as a lot of our users were complaining about the "lag" as they are constantly editing the wiki and don't always have the chat in focus.

Tell you what. Dark, if you're okay with it, I'll document our little hack and add an admincp option for turning it on/off and upload here for anyone that might want it.

Thanks for the quick reply, and, once again, thanks for this modification. Its awesome. :)

Edit: Also, we'll be sending you and some other guys around here some donations as soon as we have a little extra cash. We can't do that just yet though, as I'm sure you know, launching a site costs a little bit of cash, especially that first month. At any rate, expect a donation as soon as I'm able to send one your way.

.
Would like this as mine have the same problem have you uploaded it Hillbilly?

I'll have my partner document it and upload it as a reply here as soon as I can. I was sick as a dog all day, and now I'm doing catch up work that I missed, so it might take me a couple of days to get around to it.

Thank you hope yer feeling better :)

Probably already suggested...
  1. In a chat really missing the ability to insert nickname, like here: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/14466/
By clicking on the nickname in a chat this nickname should be inserted into the chat as plain text.
  2. I would like to add a display of user actions, as in the Inferno vBShout. For example:
User "A" created thread "B" in the forum "C".
User "D" replied in the thread "B".
Of course option can be disabled in the settings, because on large forums can be a lot of "noise".

I have a user saying XHR keeps returning a syntax error somewhere in the code returned for list.json.

They like to bicker, any idea what this would be?

Assuming you are on the latest TaigaChat and XenForo, and if it continues after clearing cache, it's an issue with your site or their browser

Does anyone know what might be causing this?Screen Shot 2011-09-20 at 8.56.57 PM.webp

I have looked all around the taiga chat.css template but cannot find where this is coming from. Any help?
