XF 1.4 Strange text characters

I have noticed recently some strange text characters in some posts and threads, see attachment. Any ideas what this could be?

It looks like a pi character.

XenForo supports the UTF-8 range of characters which includes lots of symbol characters like that. I can't positively identify that specific character from a screenshot, but it must be valid.

The user is from another country also, would that matter?

Other countries use different languages and characters. Maybe that character is from their alphabet.
