Closed Strange Email Address Being Used?

Hello everyone. Appreciate help with this odd problem.

Once in a while, I get large number of Abuse complaints from Comcast regarding thread notifications. This happened last night with many thread notifications (to different users I assume). The notification from Comcast shows this offending email address: f55c1b21f62ba5f57743eac74ff63e6a@comcast.net reported in the "inline.txt" abuse message. Naturally there is no such email address in the system. It appears that a GUID is substituted for email address???

Meanwhile Amazon SES has paused my email sending account. :( I tried blocking the address on their system but they won't let me do that while the account is paused! I am escalating this to them.

I imagine this is either a bug in Xenforo or Comcast is reporting this incorrectly.

Appreciate any help on how to investigate this further.

Could be another longshot but, have you considered just using a bulk email verifier to check if all your member emails are deliverable? It could be that a few of your members' comcast emails no longer exist and you're trying to deliver to an inexistant mailbox thus comcast is flagging you.

Even better, get a list of all comcast emails in your system and do a bulk email verification. Maybe this addon would help, you could do a bulk verify on all accounts with comcast emails.

EDIT: Oh right this was the cheap email verifier someone on this forum found: https://www.millionverifier.com/#prices

And the XF thread it came from: https://xenforo.com/community/threa...on-cleaning-user-accounts.221329/post-1680399

Automated triage: Not a bug

Thank you for reporting this issue. We found nothing in XenForo that turns usernames or email addresses into hex strings. The replaced values only appear in the provider's abuse report, which hides the recipient's identity. This report is also old and unconfirmed. If you still see changed names or addresses in emails XenForo actually sends on a current version, please open a new report with the saved email file.

This is an automated assessment. A member of staff may review and update it.
