I wonder if there is a setting to restrict amount of characters.

Its restricted to 140.

Ouch! It can't be capped? It's much too long! If your status is 140 characters long - you are having way too much fun. Perhaps I'm thinking more along the lines of a mood? Just a few short words.

No the status in general is capped. It might not be for the addon.
