1&1 isn't what I'd consider a 'quality' hosting company. Also, based on the bargain price (and the lack of documentation to the contrary), that's likely consumer-grade (rather than enterprise-grade) hardware. It's also more money per month than I'm currently paying.... although the system stats are substantially better.

I don't think any of it is relevant to the current discussion, but I wouldn't want someone reading this to think that was a 'good buy' or anything like that. They're likely to be disappointed when a drive goes bad in their dedi box, and the hosting company takes it offline for half a day while they unrack, service, and rerack the machine.

I would be interested in some more configuration info on ES, though. Anything that can be done to lessen its memory requirements is time well spent.

Let me ask you, what do you think your getting extra in buying an "enterprise" level hardware and "consumer" level hardware.

If we break a server down into its core components.

CPU
Memory
Mainboard
Hard drives
Raid controller
NICs

It's a little bit of a trick question but i'd just like you to answer it.

I use gigenet...and pay roughly 500ish for dual cpu, raid 10 15k 300gb drivers, and 12gb of ram.

So I won't worry about ram...as I can load my entire attachment database, and and board.

You need only Google Search or visit a dedicated hosting forum, such as webhostingtalk.com and discover that the ratio from pro and con in regarding 1and1 hosting... Is such a big gap....

FYI: Not everyone has a budget for $100 + for the month. And yes, you can get a good host with good resources without spending an arm and a leg.

Considering 1and1 is the largest hosting provider in the world, they must be doing something right.

And we all know, those who have problems shout the loudest, even when they are the minority. For every 1 person complaining about 1and1, I would bet they have 1000 happy customers.

Survey says.... Their cheap.

If all I had was an html site, sure 1and1 is fine. More then fine as they are cheap and easy to use.

Beyond that.... Start using php and mysql with traffic... You'd be the minority who had a good experience.

Among forum owners, the majority have issues with 1and1 hosting. It's not about who is louder, but the pure body count on that is not something you can ignore.

Give me some empirical statistics to back up your claims and you may have a valid point.

Everything else you have said is just rubbish and I won't enter any further conversation with someone who is just making stuff up.
