Spell Correction In Search

Being inspired from this thread, I did couple of searches and realize that no matter, search keyword is Ki‍er or Ke‍ir, the result will be the same. Except the fact that incorrect match will not be highlighted in the result. That leads me to think of few possibilities.

• Search is not exact search, rather it is approximate search, that can handle differences in few characters.
• They are making use of their spell correction system in search keyword processing (that is there to correct obvious but frequent mistakes or potential x-rated keywords)

Any thoughts?

NOTE: I was able to bypass auto-spell correction with a dirty trick.
