Should i be doing a mod rewrite for www.

I read somewhere that on a website you should always do a rewrite to either yourdomain.com or www.yourdomain.com or google will look at it as two domains and you end up with duplicates.

I was wondering if this is so with xf. Is this already set in xf or should i add it to .htacces if so what is the code to add please.
