ShotTalk.com was orginially started in 2004, after years of ownership is was sol to a known forum owner and converted from Vbulletin to Xenforo. I think sometime around 2014 is when it was converted and possibly sold in 2013. Sometime around 2017 it was purchased from the forum owner to another forum network owner. It was a haven for ads and not much development. I have been chasing this forum for around 2 years trying to purchase it and the time was right. I was finally able to contact the then current owner and make a deal happen last month.

Over the past few weeks I have updated the software to XF 2.2.15 and started updating forums titles, description and moving things around. I also had to deal with a bot problem to get the bandwidth down as the badbots were scraping the site to pieces. I have been working behind cloudflare as well as abusing the robots.txt to block and send some packing. I am using google webmaster tools, google analytics, and bing webmaster tools to monitor the site.

Last week I contacted DohTheme for a custom theme and it turned out wonderful. He understood what I wanted and as you can see on the site it really defines a unique look for the forum to stand out. We will be continuing to move topics around and bring new things to the forum.

If you are a golf enthusiast you will enjoy the talk of the forum and topics that are going on. We have sections for reviews, getting help and more.

Really nice, inviting, easy to engage... like a nice golf course 😄. One thought is to tag threads (or create a Search forum; I've yet to play with those) when folks are discussing courses they're playing on, etc. i.e., as a new visitor, I'm interested in perusing posts or threads about golf courses in or around my home state.

Well, thats where members would come into play to add information about their courses since there are thousands of sites that list courses out already. But many do not give like in depth reviews.

Very nice site @RandallC and lovely theme from @DohTheme :)

@RandallC, do you have any golf related plugins or features that you have that you'd be happy to discuss or show off? Either custom or off the shelf from the Resource manager?

I'm exploring options for creating a private community site for a small local golfing society, would love to hear any thoughts or suggestions for XF optimisations you've made for a golfing community.

I no longer own the forum as I sold it. However, no custom stuff on the forum but I would suggest Media Gallery, I would also depending on how private it is like one course or a local area you could do a plugin for reviewing equipment, courses and more. I would also checkout two other forum golfwrx which also runs on XF and thehackersParadise which runs on XF.

Hi, I like your forum appearance.
Can you tell me how to enable the up/ down arrow on the right end of the category bar. Which opens / closes the sub forums / threads below?

Is that a standard option in XF2? I can't find it!
Regards,
Mike
