I've discovered an error having to do with Gravatar. I don't notice any issues, so it must not have been anything major.

I disabled Gravatar a long time ago as it was slowing page loading down way too much.

I haven't noticed any speed issues on KH-Flare.

as a result of the Snowden revelations many people on my site use browser addons like ghostery or have issues with 3rd party data collection. additional to the performance issues, those are reasons for me not to use gravatar.

Old thread but indeed. Gravatar recently is returning me server errors due timeouts about every day.

Is this their side? Service Slowness?

It will undoubtedly be due to sporadic errors related to communicating with the server/service.
