XF 2.1 Serve theme's static content via CDN

Hi,

As the title says, I'd like to serve all static content of my theme (not running the default one) via CDN. (at least the images)

I thought of writing an add-on to replace the links before rendering. I assume that would work? This way I can switch it on/off with a click of a button instead of replacing them one by one in the settings.

Any other ideas?
