We have a pretty diverse (Dutch) forum covering a lot of different discussion topics, which results in some pretty wild random "similar threads" results.
One example is a topic about women discrimination ("Vrouwendiscriminatie", no thread tags) on one subforum, which results in having 5 (board)game reviews as Similar threads.
A way to see the relevancy score in the widget (which in these cases is probably an extreem low number, but not 0?), and configure a minimum score cut-off in the widget (to cull those extremely random results).
