Search option to select date rather than relevancy as the default

I would like to request an admin option in the search options page to allow the selection of relevancy or date as the default sort order for search results.
In addition I would like whichever has been selected to be selected again by default in the main search page if the 'Search again' link is used. I.e. remember the selection.

I found that Xon has an add-on called "Search Improvements" which actually does this; however, he calls it "most recent" and "relevance" instead of "date" and "relevance". It also does some really nifty stuff such as show the release of "elastic search" installed and allow the use of of Boolean syntax queries which is very useful. It has a lot of other things which you might be interested in. Thank you Xon.
