Search on Custom Thread field?

I noticed that out of the box we can't search on information that we place in a custom thread field. We need to install a addon to be able to do this. I am wondering why this is not a core function from Xenforo. Is there a reason for it? I want to install as less addons as possible so this is why im asking.
