XF 1.2 Safe to go back to a previous version of an addon?

Hello,

I am just wondering if it is safe to roll back to a previous version of an addon. I updated an addon (uploaded new files and overwrote old ones). I am getting an error and it will not complete the upgrade. The forum has been down 5 hours now.

I am just wondering if I have a previous version of the addon, if I upload and rewrite the old files (over the new ones) and then upgrade the addon using the previous version .xml will it work? Is there any danger in doing this?
