Rumors, slander, false accusations

Your forum has managed to piss off some other forum, and you're now targeted with rumors, slander and false accusations.

How would you handle a situation like this?:

Address the issue?

Try to negotiate with the people targeting you?

Don't feed the troll ie. pay no attention to the rumors?

If it's on your site, from existing members, then address it truthfully. If it's from new members registering for the sole purpose of mud-slinging, then delete it and ban/remove the new mud-slingers. If it's on another site, ignore it.
