XF 2.1 Reset a user to default permissions from custom permissions

I had to gag a user and took a shortcut of custom setting their permissions directly.

Now I want to reset the user's permissions, but I see no option to just wipe custom settings.

Is there an option for this?

Or do I have to manually work out what permissions they should have and set their permissions that way, hoping I get it right?

Aha! Set everything to NO and save. Positive user group permissions will then grant them all the permissions they should have.

I can't get this working in 2.2.

I've done the cache rebuild too, but even if I then use the quick set to no and save, the users are still in the list...

I've just thought, are the defaults all supposed to be no/0? If something defaults as yes, then I'll always be setting it to the wrong thing.

How can I check what the defaults are?

I had been using my phone to reset them, so now I used a laptop. Can confirm all are set to No or 0 and still they remain in the list. Rebuilding cache doesn't help either.
